MAC and the Windows are the two platforms widely used so Microsoft provides its personal manager application, Outlook for MAC separately. Even though it's a product from Microsoft, Mac Outlook uses a separate file format for storing contacts rather than in Outlook for Windows. OLM file : OLM file is the proprietary file format for storing data in Outlook for MAC. An OLM file contains emails, contacts, calendars etc from the Outlook profile. In general the maximum size limit for an OLM file is 2GB exceeding this limit leads to failure of the OLM files. However, the OLM files are not created by default. It is obtained as a result of exporting the contents to the specified format by Outlook. Only third party solutions are available to access the OLM files in Windows platform if needed.

PST File : PST stands for Personal Storage Tables. It is the proprietary file format for storing contents from Microsoft Outlook. ANSI and Unicode are the two types of encoding styles used by PST. Various Microsoft applications other than Outlook use PST files these includes exchange server Clients, windows messaging etc. Most often the PST file format is used for archiving contents from the applications. Nowadays PST files have no size limitation as in earlier versions of Outlook.
